Teachers’ Retirement System is looking for a Human Resources Intern. 

Start Date: June 1, 2021

Standard Weekly Job Hours: Monday- Friday 8:30 AM-4:30 PM (35 hours)

TRS provides retirement benefits for teachers who are employed by all Illinois public common and charter school districts located outside the city of Chicago. The Illinois Pension Code contains the laws relating to our creation, benefits, and administration.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with reviewing resumes, scheduling interviews, and creating job postings
  • Assist with new hire and continued education training and work on projects including creating and/or updating training documents, resources, and presentations
  • Assist with project management and research of the TRS Handbook
  • Assist with exit interviews
  • Assist with salary administration project
  • Maintains appropriate confidentiality in dealing with company and employee information
  • Provide exceptional customer service to business units and employees

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in a four-year degree and above program in Business, Human Resources or a related field. Must be in at least junior standing as of the Fall, 2021 semester.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Traits: Attention to detail, team player, self-directed, and motivated.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong decision making and organizational skills.
  • Creative mindset: must be able to think through ideas and translate them into workable drafts.
  • Ability to effectively and professionally present information in one-on-one and small group organization.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Interest in HR, training, employee relations, employee engagement, culture, recruiting, branding for talent, benefits, compensation, and/or total rewards.

  • Understanding the value of customer service in the HR environment
  • Understanding of Human Resources practices and terminology
  • Passion for people and cultivating employee engagement and growth
  • Strong communication skills with a focus on asking questions and listening to understand
  • Ability to work in teams as well as independently

Physical Demands:

  • Regularly required to sit or stand, reach, bend and move about the office.

Work Environment:

  • Office: Standard office equipment; work usually performed in an office setting
  • Standard weekly job hours: 35 hours
